The Hash where we lost Bernie
There was a good turn out this week, which may in part be due to the
excellent directions to a location everyone could find !..well almost
everyone...patience please all will be explained in good time.
So, the pack assembled in a timely fashion in warm sunshine and in a
surprisingly light hearted mood. This scribe feels that this can only
be attributed to the fact that the previous weeks debacle was behind
us and that the GM has yet to re-join us... so all in all, there was
no serious angst being visited upon the assembled throng of carefree
hashers and harriets and all seemed well with the world.
Still that didn't last long and shortly after the off the mood did
begin to darken a bit. This weeks hash was a Yogi, Rubberlegs and
Apple extravaganza and the pack clearly felt that hills would be in
order...the only problem was we couldn't see any obvious ones from
where we started, so having immediately set off up a slight incline
from the on-in to try an find some, we entered a couple of blind
alleys before heading back to the on-in and off down a hill !
Soon runners were mingling with walkers on the terraces of what was
rapidly becoming a crowded paddy field. Still the Hares stepped in to
resume normal service and soon had the two packs separated again and
off we went towards checks 1 and 2... and off we went towards checks 1
and 2...and off we went towards checks 1 and 2...and off we went
towards checks 1 and 2 and so it continued on what one Hasher was
heard to describe as the Groundhog Hash. Yep we appeared to have
become stuck in a repeating loop...or was it all part of a cunning
plan cooked up be the hares to disorient the pack. I'm not sure we'll
ever know for sure, as both Yogi and Rubberlegs remained inscrutable
and gave no indication that anything had gone wrong.
Soon we were looking out across the valley and with hills seen in the
distance we felt sure we knew where were going. Alas we were wrong and
we soon found ourselves going up and down the side of the valley we
were on responding to the whims of the hares as they cried "on on up
!"
Now it was around this point that we lost a couple of hashers...the
intrepid HeBitch with Bernie in tow had managed without too much
difficulty to separate themselves from the main pack and had
apparently decided to go on a day trip to Budha Nil Kantha.
Now as we all know HeBitch is nothing if not resourceful and when it
became apparent that Bernie was struggling to keep up (this was being
communicated in a stream of Italian explitives between breaths) he
decided he'd help a friend in need. So he kindly waved down a taxi
(for we worry is now his ex) friend. "Where to guv?" the taxi driver
asked. "Oh take my friend to our hash on-in at Dallu" (on the Western
outskirts of Kathmandu) responds HeBitch, pressing a soggy 100 Rupee
note into Bernie's eagerly outstretched hand, forgetting completely
of course (or did he even know in the first place) that today's on-in
was at Losal (on the Eastern outskirts of Kathmandu).
Now at the time of writing it still remains unclear as to what fate
befell poor Bernie. He was last seen waving (or was he drowning) out
the back window mouthing a grateful thank you to HeBitch as the taxi
headed off over the horizon...All we do know for sure is that Bernie
never did make the circle. As the hash finery was packed away for
another week, all that was left was a lone down down sitting on the
table waiting for its rightful owner...
In this scribes opinion that down down should remain unclaimed for
posterity on the edge of the table, awaiting what will be a hilarious
reunion with the HHHH's own little Italian masterpiss !
Oh needless to say HeBitch returned unscathed from this small misadventure !
So back to the run proper. Having climbed to the second holding, we
eventually descended into the valley below for a lovely leg stretching
run to the third and final holding. Some of course were intent on
descending faster than others and one harriet Jo excelled by falling
off the edge of the path (it could only be loosely described as such),
not once but twice, grinning from ear to ear as she lay sprawled in
the top branches of a tree looking like a large sparrow that was
learning to fly.
For once the runners made it back to the on-in before the walkers,
which was a shame as one of them had the keys to the beer wagon and
for what seems like the second time in as many weeks we had to wait
for beer!!!
Oh and the walk was "challenging" - it must have been they got back late.
Still the circle was worth waiting for. With the G Mizz laid low with
a bug , we enjoyed a circle with Supersuction at the helm (well
almost). "We had beer... we had fags... we had singing in the sun" and
it is already being talked about as one of the most memorable circles
in hash history !!! (well it is by SS).
Well it may be memorable for some, unfortunately SS who is also
scribing this week drank more beer than his little brain can deal with
and has forgotten who most of the many down downs were handed out to
(so apologies for the lack of names and if you have been forgotten
please raise your hand next week...and the mis-management will
consider appeals for repeat down downs!)
So we had :-
The Hares - Yogi, Rubberlegs and Apple
The Virgins - almost too many too mention (five I think), there was
Ellen from America, another American guy who makes earrings, a lovely
French girl, a Columbian and a couple of wanna be Canadians (one of
whom flies a plane and is really German) - confused yet , I am - good
now you can see how difficult it all was !!!
Newcomers - Another nice American who hashed in Indonesia and someone else
There were the lost and even loster - HeBitch of course, Bernie if
he'd been there, a pair of earrings and Steve's dog !
Puja for being helpful and Impressive and Steve for taking advantage
and making her carry loads !
And of course the Hashit could only go to HeBitch
Oh and there was the Brazilian lady (Maria) who I do remember and her
German partner Michael who was German. They weren't on the hash but
ran past and stopped for a chat and a down down as they were nearly
home anyway !
Next week is another HeBitch adventure...so watch out !
